The Book of Revelation - 7 (seven) Church Types
The Church today is struggling - in the U.S.A. and internationally.
The struggles are caused by 2 forces:
- Man (his sin)
- Spiritual warfare (Satan and his minions)
The struggles are caused by pressure from two directions:
- Internal - from inside the Church (sin, disunity, incorrect focus)
- External - from outside the Church (persecution, culture wars)
Struggles are nothing new and have been happening since Satan and Adam fell to sin. The Bible says "For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms." (Ephesians 6:12)
When God Speaks, We Need to "Hear"
"He who has ears to hear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches..." - Jesus, The Book of Revelation
To redeem the Church and show us God's will, His plan, God intimately talks to the Church through 7 separate churches in the book of Revelation. These churches are 7 "types" of churches that existed in the first century, throughout the subsequent centuries, and today. God's guidance for the 7 churches need to be understood and actively applied to be a healthy (pure) church and avoiding being an un-healthy (sinful) church.

The Churches
Of the 7 types of churches in Revelation, only 2 are healthy and fully obedient to the Lord, where Jesus compliments and encourages them. The remaining 5 Churches are UN-healthy and Jesus admonishes them to various degrees.
These 2 (Healthy) churches are approved by the Lord and encouraged for their obedience. Common factors – they are under duress and are actively struggling against evil.
These 5 (Un-healthy) churches are admonished by the Lord for their blatant faults, and strictly warned to various degrees. Common factors – they are off focus, not "hearing", and not fully obedient to the Lord.
